Faerie Kingdom of Celene
fig. 1

Blazon: Purple, a oak tree eradicated proper.

Commentary: What can be said about the arms of the Faerie Kingdom of Celene that is not also true of most Olven heraldry? Well for one it is amazingly simple, rarity in Olven arms, in its design, an oak tree on a purple background, see fig. 1.

While it is use of color on color makes it all but useless on the battlefield, something that the arms of a few human kingdoms also suffer, utility is rarely the point of Olven heraldry. I have literally seen fey arms that are artistic masterpieces done in whatever style was the rage that century. It is all about beauty and mood for elves.

The full arms of Celene, see fig. 2, is far more interesting. You will notice that instead of traditional mantling seen commonly in human arms, the fey kingdom uses a wreath of oak leaves and acorns to frame the device. The Crown of Stars replaces the traditional helm and it has a crest unique to Olven heraldry, a wood sprite with a bow.

The symbolic meaning of the seven stars on the crown is not widely known and my attempts at gaining a sliver of knowledge on this subject has been rebuffed, sometimes violently. The common wisdom links the crown to either the Court of Stars of the Olympian Glades of Arborea or that it represents various fey factions that compose the oerthly court of Celene. My interrogations of a few Olvefolk captured by my agents have not borne any fruit on this issue, sadly they chose to perish rather than part with what I sought.

The wood sprite does not appear to be of any specific species of fey that is known to me, it is perhaps an abstract representation so as not to offend the various and often chaotic members of the Queen’s court.

Saracenus Garasteth, Baron of Trellwood
Radiant Sun King at Arms
