Otyugh is a large blob-like monster appearing in the underground areas of the Flanaess, as well as the Rushmoors of northern Keoland and on the Paraelemental Plane of Ooze, that is known for being opportunistically carnivorous and exceptionally unclean.
Ecology
Environment
Otyughs are typically found in underground enviroments such as caves since they are particularly averse to sunlight. They tend to nest in piles of dung, rubbish, offal, and the like. The often live in places where there are other monsters living nearby[1].
Typical physical characteristics
They are blob shaped creatures, human-sized or larger, each of which has a sensory organ stalk, and two tentacles covered in sharp ridge, along with a sucker-like mouth that is also filled with teeth.
Diet
While the Otyugh's are mostly scavengers that live off the scraps of other more powerful monsters, they do enjoy supplementing with fresh meat, including unwary adventurers.
Symbiotic relationships
Otyughs are typically found in areas with other large monsters, with who them form tentative truces. They stay nearby and often guard the other creature's treasure, though they have little interest in such things themselves.
Abilities
The otyugh's tentacles give it good reach, which it uses to grapple unwary prey, and spreads diseases, most specifically typhus. Otyughs are surprisingly intelligent for monsters and can communicate telepathically to a certain degree, though they very seldom bother to do so.
History
Notable examples
- Gargmanethka was a unsually large and intellegent mutant Otyugh who worked for the Demon Lord Turglas.
