Ardrinn, is a hamlet and a small port on the Nyr Dyv along the Coast Road in the Barony of High Mardreth and the Archbarony of Fennelmore in the County of Urnst.[1]
History
[edit | edit source]Adrinn has becomes more popular as merchants are using the small port to avoid the higher taxes at High Mardreth. This brings refugees from Tenh, and unfortunately also brings disreputable types including slavers from the Empire of Iuz.[1]
Geography and climate
[edit | edit source]Ardrinn is a lakeside settlement on the Nyr Dyv close to High Mardreth, at the mouth of a river.[2] It is on a beach at the base of a large (60') cliff which towers above it; the Tar Shanks tavern is atop it.[3]
People
[edit | edit source]Population
[edit | edit source]This tiny little hamlet has only 345 citizens in 591 CY.[1]
Religion
[edit | edit source]Canon Aguto (male human Clr5) presides over the church of Xerbo. A red-haired man with a thick, woolly beard, he wears green vestments marked by the emblazoned sigil of a dragon turtle upon his chest and watches over his ward Sheera (female human Com1).[4]
Notable individuals
[edit | edit source]- Aloyarc—master fisherman with several dingies.[5]
- Granny Hetch—cooks at the church.[5]
- Sir Martane (LG male human Ftr3)[6]—a Knight of the Swan, resides in the hamlet with his sister and serves there as its protector. Known for his friendly nature and willingness to help anyone in need, few realize that he is the son of Sir Shandell Damian, the County’s ambassador to Nyrond.[7]
- Knab—the local miller.[5]
- Mendevious (CN male human Ftr3/Sor1)[8]—is a ne'er-do-well and ex-convict. He leads a band of halfling vandals: Coen, Lisk, and Rexy (NE male halflings Rog1). He uses a tower on a small island about 300 feet from the shore as his base.[9]
- Old man Werner—fisherman that goes out ever Starday with Sir Martane.[10]
Government
[edit | edit source]Administrative Divisions
[edit | edit source]Worthy Sir Giyard (male human Ftr5) was the constable of the hamlet and a Knight Bachelor in the Knights of the Swan. He also acted as Harbor Master[11], until it was poisoned by an agent of Iuz in 591 CY.[10]
Militia
[edit | edit source]The local guard is commanded by Captain Delos, assisted by his aide, Connick, with Sergeant Narie serving among his senior officers.[12]
Economy
[edit | edit source]Resources
[edit | edit source]Fishing and trade are the most common sources of goods and commerce. Merchants sometimes use the fishing village to ship goods to avoid the taxes in High Mardreth.[1]
Notable locations
[edit | edit source]The Docks -lie along the beach below the cliffs, where several wooden wharves extend into the water to serve both fishing boats and trading vessels. Fishermen mend nets, tar their hulls, and perform routine maintenance, while one or two merchant ships each week arrive to load and unload cargo such as barrels of grain and tar, bolts of cloth, and the occasional head of cattle.[13]
Tar Shanks tavern—perches atop a sixty-foot cliff overlooking the beach below. Its fare is serviceable rather than inspired, potatoes, heavily fried fish, and a sweet, foamy dark ale make up the day’s offerings.
Cytan (male human Com1), a thin, balding bartender and owner in his mid-forties, has a habit of peppering other humans with questions while pointedly avoiding conversation with non-humans. Hord (male human Com1) is the cook and usually lingers in the back, grumbling at Cytan to return to work as the orders continue to pile up.[13]
Transportation
[edit | edit source]Travel in the area is by foot or wagon along the Coast Road that connects Radigast City through Bampton and Ardrinn to High Mardreth[14], or by boat on the Nyr Dyv.
