Ekbir, properly known as the Sultanate of Ekbir,[2][note 2] is a political state of the Flanaess. It is situated in the Baklunish Basin region of the Flanaess, upon the shores of the Dramidj Ocean.
adventure takes here an epic magnitude, in the wake of great heroes of ancient times whose exploits are still praised in books, poems and songs.
History
[edit | edit source]Founded by survivors of the Invoked Devastation who fled northeast, the small port-city quickly grew as northern nomads came to trade with the new settlers.

[edit | edit source]Ekbir is bordered by the Dramidj Ocean to the west, the Yatil Mountains and Yecha Hills to the north, the Blashikmund River to the east, and the Tuflik River to the south. Across the Tuflik and Blashikmund lie the neighboring states of Zeif and Tusmit, respectively, while the Tiger Nomads lie to the north across the Yatils and Yechas. Most of the Udgru Forest lies in the northern reaches of Ekbir.
Climate
[edit | edit source]While the coastal areas of Ekbir are pleasant and mild year-round, winters within the interior can be rather severe.[4]
Administrative divisions
[edit | edit source]There are "numerous minor sheikdoms"[4] in Ekbir. In the Living Greyhawk campaign, the provinces were named. (see below)

[edit | edit source]Ekbiri natives are almost entirely of Baklunish ancestry.
Religion
[edit | edit source]The most widely worshipped deity in Ekbir is Al'Akbar, but the entire Baklunish pantheon has adherents throughout the nation. The State favors Al'Akbar, Istus, Mouqol, and Geshtai.[4]
Languages
[edit | edit source]While there are other languages spoken, and Common is not rare, the Baklunish language is by far the most widely-spoken in Ekbir.[4]

[edit | edit source]Ekbir's coinage are named: star (pp), cup (gp), charger (sp), galley (ep).[1] and sentry (cp). There are also instances of quest (sp)[citation needed] and guard (bp).[citation needed]
"Galley" is also used by Dyvers for their electrum coins.[5]

[edit | edit source]- Farises—mounted warriors in service to Al'Akbar, noted for nobility[6] and discipline[7] The knighthood was formed under Udmey the Seer to "defend the nation, clergy, pilgrims, and citizens. They also served as a counterbalance to the mounted raiders of the plains."[8]

- ↑ In earlier sources, Ekbir is referred to as a caliphate instead of a sultanate. "Caliph" is an Islamic religious title referring solely to Muslim men related to Prophet Muhammad. It is not used to refer to people outside Islam.[3] "Sultan" is a more accurate word for an equivalent to a "king". The usage was changed in the Dungeon Master's Guide (2024).[2]
