Karoolck is a powerful mage who serves Ivid V as his Imperial Court Mage after the Greyhawk Wars, maintaining a tower in Rauxes for his research.

Description

[edit | edit source]

Appearance

[edit | edit source]

Karoolck is tall and thin, at 6'2" but with forearms only as wide around as his wrists. He has brown eyes and black hair, but lacks other body hair. His fingernails are a full inch long and iron hard.[1]

Personality

[edit | edit source]

Karoolck is bitter and vengeful, never forgetting nor forgiving his enemies. He is paranoid about the possible return of his predecessor Xaene, despite the mage being dead, and is prone to taking out fits of anger on his goblin minions by casting disintegration[2].

Religion

[edit | edit source]

Karoolck has sold his soul to the pit fiend Baalzephon, who he first encountered at the Cauldron of Night, in exchange for being granted an exceptionally long life, not aging for 333 years, and nine free resurrections, of which he still has eight left. In exchange, he is utterly devoted to her and does her bidding in the mortal realm [1].

Abilities

[edit | edit source]

Despite being no more strong than an average human and being a mage, Karoolck is extraordinarily fit and hale (Con 15) and even as he has gotten older, had not lost any of his agility and is still nimble and quick (Dex 16).[1]

Karoolk maintains a tower in Rauxes, in which is conducts his research. The tower is craggy and mobat-infested, filled with oozes of various sorts that are very good at disposing of the bodies of intruders, along with his iron golems, ghouls, vampiric mist and trained stirges who has magically enhanced.

Possessions

[edit | edit source]

Karoolck has created and acquired a number of impressive magical items that he keeps in his tower. He does carry several powerful artifacts on his person, notably: a ring of spell turning, a candle of invocation attuned to Baalzephon, and a staff of the magi made of black wood and carved into a snake skeleton.[1]

For protective purposes, he also wears various magic items, including a ring of protection +4 and a fiend circlet—an incredibly rare crownlet gifted by one of the Dark Eight (Baalzephon).

Relationships

[edit | edit source]

Karoolck serves as the court mage for Ivid V, and is particularly devoted to his king, so much so that the majority of his research is trying to find a cure for the disease that plagues the monarch.[1]

Allies and minions

[edit | edit source]

In his tower, Karoolck has a retinue of goblin servants who assist him in various capacities, mostly fetching and carrying, who he occasionally disintegrates in moments of anger [2]. He also has an apprentice, "a neutral-aligned alu-fiend renegade from the Abyss with the powers of a 9th-level mage."[2]
