Sete is a village in the Duchy of Urnst near the Western Abbor-Alz March in Molk County.

Description

[edit source]

The village of Sete stretches out before you, a bustling hamlet typical of those scattered throughout the Duchy. Busy shops line the streets, blacksmiths hammer at their forges, leatherworkers ply their trade, and other small businesses hum with activity. A large stone building, marked with a sign of manacles and a massive iron lock, stands prominently—this is the residence of Lord Furel Grek.

Sete serves as a convenient stopping point for traveling merchants, and the village is filled with alehouses, gambling dens, and various houses of ill repute to entertain weary travelers.[1]

Geography

[edit source]

Sete is located on a trade route in southern side of the Duchy, north of Kelefane and south of Molk.[2]

Government

[edit source]

Lord Furel Grek of House Grek is Lord of Sete.[3] Lady Ondreh Nelaera serves as his Lieutenant in the Roughriders.

Organization

[edit source]

Sete Roughriders—The Roughriders are a group of lightly armored horsemen who patrol the Southern portion of the Duchy of Urnst. They are independent of the Ducal Guard and the two forces have a certain contempt for each other. A typical Roughrider Patroller tends toward rowdy behavior, coarse language, and seedy drinking establishments.[4][5]

Economy

[edit source]

Currency

[edit source]

Uses the duchy's standard coinage consisting of the platinum sterling duke (pp), gold duke (gp), electrum bright (ep), silver shield (sp), and copper common (cp).[6]

Notable locations

[edit source]

Shrine to Boccob—it serves as both living quarters and a modest shrine to Boccob. It is a small, simple place of worship, containing an incense burner and a statue of the god. A few small benches face the shrine, and a single door leads from the worship space into the private living area beyond. The former priest, Larius (male human Clr) was killed after trying to destroy Tarth Moorda in 595 CY.[7]

The Pit—is a somewhat dubious inn depending on which floor your sleep on.[8]

The Wandering Wyvern—is a large town inn owned by Mary Lynn Meissel, a woman of remarkable perseverance and inner strength. A widow of a minor noble of House Meissel (Saelwynn), she used a modest inheritance to rebuild the Wyvern from literal ashes. Having lost her husband to a game of chance, Mary Lynn enforces a strict no-gambling policy: a sign above the door reads, “WELCOME! Please no gambling”. Those who defy her rules aren’t thrown out by her—her enforcers, the Roughriders, handle that.

The inn’s dining room measures 50 feet square and can accommodate roughly seventy guests at full capacity. The bar is fully stocked, and Jocan, the barkeep, takes particular pride in his selection of Urnstian brandies and cognacs. Though his years of labor have left him looking worn, his bright green eyes remain ever watchful, and his clear baritone carries over even the rowdiest crowd.

Serving the patrons are Melissa and Carrisa, the owner’s strong and comely identical twin daughters, often seen balancing four double-pints of ale in each hand. From the kitchen, the dwarven chef Gneiss commands attention with a steady stream of culinary epithets. Renowned for his skill in incorporating dwarven ale into nearly any dish without ruining the flavor, Gneiss takes immense pride in his work and tolerates no insult to it.[4]
