Oakenheart is a town in the Dominion of the Sea Barons. It is the only natural harbor and the largest city by order of magnitude on the island of Oakenisle.
History
[edit | edit source]Oakenheart used to be known as Crede. The Ladies of Crede, named for the old name of the town, are still a potent force in Oakenheart. In early 585 CY, two of the cities finest young sea captains were assassinated, which was widely believed to be the work of the Scarlet Brotherhood [1].
Cityscape
[edit | edit source]The city is mostly built using wood from the mighty oak trees that give both the city and the larger island their names. It does have stone and a great bronze-coated gate the guards the harbor. The gate is enchanted to protect against both natural corrosion from the ocean's salt content and fire based attacks.
People
[edit | edit source]Population
[edit | edit source]In 591 CY, the population of Oakenheart stands at 5000 individuals.
Government
[edit | edit source]Oakenheart is the capital of the Barony of Oakenisle, which is run by one of the Sea Barons, Baron Jamzeen. The city is completely sealed off and outsider need a good reason, such as trade, to enter within the gates, and the Harborgaurd is notoriously difficult to bribe. The city maintained, as of 585 CY, a fleet of seventeen ships, including Galleons and twelve coasters. [1]
Economy
[edit | edit source]On of the most prominent businesses of the city is the shipyards run by Walfrenden. He is known for his exceptional ships, the most recent as of 585 CY being a heavy caravel, Starflier with a longer range thanks to an new type of triangular sail.
