Touv is generally used in reference to the Touv people, a culture and subspecies of humans living in Hepmonaland, though the term may also refer to the language and culture of said people. The Touv use the Touv Calendar for keeping time.

The Touv people are known for warring with the Olman people in the northern jungles over the Olman Empire's practices of taking slaves and ritual sacrifice. Touv have built cities in Hepmonaland and the Amedio Jungle.

Description

People with Touv ancestry are a subspecies of humans.

In the The Scarlet Brotherhood sourcebook, Sean K. Reynolds describes the Touv thus:

"The Touv people have dark brown or black skin; blue or brown eyes, with black eyes being rare; and straight or wavy hair. They have rounded facial features and are typically shorter than most people of the Flanaess, with the tallest Touv reaching about 5'10" in height. While most Touv males do not have facial hair, certain subgroups can grow narrow beards from their chins. Women's figures are often rounded and lush."[1]

Society

[edit | edit source]

Traditional Touv culture is organized into tribes[2][3][4] and subgroups.[1] The tribes were united into the Kingdom of Kunda, but when that empire fell, contemporary tribes became centered around several city-state domains in Hepmonaland, and there are commonly small tribes which "live within [a] country’s border and claim independence."[5] Touv can also be found elsewhere in the Flanaess, but there are, however, still "reclusive tribes hidden in the deepest jungles."[3]

Religion

[edit | edit source]

Originating in Hepmonaland, the Touv pantheon is led primarily by Uvot.

The most notable deities of the pantheon include:

The pantheon also includes many minor divine beings,

"Numerous lesser spirits... such as those of individual land features, plants, and animals; many shamans learn the ways of the lesser spirits critical to the survival of their people rather than following the more generalized, greater spirits."[6][note 1]

Language

[edit | edit source]

The Touv people's language is simply called Touv, which is a "complex language that is a polyglot of tribal tongues containing many words that mean the same thing."[2]

"Extensive trade among the Kundali nations keeps the language growing and universally comprehensible, although there are noticeable regional differences. Touv is an easy language to learn in small pieces but difficult to master. Its written language is phonetically based. It is spoken in all the former nations of the Kingdom of Kundali still under human control."[2]

History

[edit | edit source]

While the majority of humans in the Flanaess have mixed ancestry, and people of direct Touv descent can be found anywhere, they are originally from Hepmonaland. They rose to prominence with the Kingdom of Kunda which formed c.-1408 CY (when the Touv Calendar began),[2] and "lasted a little over 1,200 years."[7]
