The Kingdom of Kunda was the first combined nation of Touv in Hepmonaland, comprised of various tribes coming together under a single king. It was founded more than a millennium and a half before the first common year[2]
Description
[edit | edit source]Few details are known about this ancient nation, other than its existence. It is older than any other known human nation.
History
[edit | edit source]"The Kingdom of Kunda lasted a little over 1,200 years,"[3] forming c.-1408 CY when the Touv Calendar began.[1]
The Touv of Hepmonaland were originally scattered tribes throughout the southern regions of the continent, especially the Kabreevo Plain and Otobo Jungle. At the time, they did limited farming and followed herds of wild cattle.
Founding of Kunda
[edit | edit source]"The Touv in the south lands collected into larger groups and formed permanent settlements. Though there were a few fights over land and cattle, the majority of the Touv worked amiably with their distant cousins. A charismatic tribal leader named Onatal convinced three of the larger tribes to combine into one, and the agglomerate tribe took great leaps in metallurgy, farming and herding.
The remaining tribes quickly joined the large one, and Onatal proclaimed himself King of the Cities. The Kingdom of Kunda was born. The Kundali began to settle a larger and larger area, eventually coming into contact with the martial Olman city-states to the north. Repulsed by the Olman use of human sacrifice and their worship of a serpent god—the primary Touv evil god was Meyanok, a serpent deity—the Kundali declared war upon the Olman."[4]
Before long, the Touv mastered living in the jungle, and advanced their ironwork. This gave them a technological edge over the Olman, in addition to the fact that the Olmani were engaged in civil war, as well as war with the yuan-ti who invaded some of their cities. Thus, the Touv were victorious over the Olman and they began "fortifying their northern borders."[4]
The Touv "returned to their previous existence of learning, herding and building,"[4] but things did not remain placid.
Fall of Kunda
[edit | edit source]The end of the Kingdom of Kunda was brought about by the snake-priests of Meyanok. Through creating magical famine and sowing corruption in the heart of the ruler of one of the kingdom's provinces, it created a cascade of provinces seceding from the kingdom. The king wasn't able to effectively deal with the rebellion because of "trouble within the capitol."[3]
"In -252 CY, a disguised priest of Meyanok worked his way into the inner circle of advisors to the Jolani prince and began to poison his mind and body. Within two years, the prince was so deluded that he believed that his other advisors and the king were plotting against him. so he declared his city-state independent of the Kunda Kingdom in -250 CY. Appeals and diplomatic measures from the capital were turned aside or twisted by the snake-priest, and the secession precipitated similar acts from Ichamamna and Byanbo."[5]
Geography
[edit | edit source]The Kingdom of Kunda once spread across the whole of southern Hepmonaland.[2] It included the modern independent city-states of Anatal, Byanbo, Ikelan, Iyapo, Jolan, Kevot, Kundanol, Kundaxa, Tolnaok, and Vay Nama.
People
[edit | edit source]Population
[edit | edit source]While there are no specific population numbers, essentially, at one time all Touv in southern Hepmonaland were all Kundali.
Religion
[edit | edit source]The citizens of Kunda most commonly followed the Touv pantheon.
Languages
[edit | edit source]It may be presumed that the language of the Kingdom of Kunda is sufficiently ancient to be substantially different than the modern Touv language. But, modern Touv is a multilingual tongue and an agglomeration of many tribal languages, meaning it has many homonyms and is easy to learn if difficult to master. It is spoken in all former Kundali nations and is a strong influence on other neighboring languages.
Government
[edit | edit source]Onatal, King of the Cities, ruled the Kingdom of Kunda as a sovereign monarch.[2]
Economy
[edit | edit source]Resources
[edit | edit source]Kunda was based on learning things like (iron) metallurgy, in addition to farming and herding.[4]
Currency
[edit | edit source]"Touv money is circular, larger and flatter than coins from the Flanaess. They arc stamped with the local prince or nation's coat of arms on one side and representative symbols of Katay's disk of time on the other side."[6]
