Starkwall is a fortified watchtower in the north of the Kingdom of Nyrond.
Description
[edit | edit source]In 585 CY, Starkwall is a fortified watchtower providing a base camp for local militia units, which patroll the eastern banks of the Artonsamay River watching the Bandit Kingdoms. The fortifications comprise a wooden palisade wall erected around a fortified tower. The militias based here are deeply suspicious of anyone approaching in this dangerous borderland. Morale here is poor as the militia are poorly equipped, many paid late, and food rations are meager and poor quality. Skandar Gundersson is stationed here advising the militias hunting raiders from the Bandit Kingdoms where he once operated as a bandit.[1]

History
[edit | edit source]In 595 CY, after strife between the two nations, Nyrond and the County of Urnst sign a non-aggression treaty and the Crown of Nyrond transfers the border province of Starkwall to the County. The treaty is signed on 1 Planting and reads, in part:
"ARTICLE III-A: The border of the Nyrond Imperium shall shift east a distance of 20 statute miles of its former location along the Stone Road from Crystal Springs to Starkwall. This change transfers all lands, resources, towns, and peoples who live in the affected area, to include all lands of the city of Starkwall, and all other hamlets, villages and towns in the affected region and their governments and officials, to the possession of the County of Urnst.... transfer of all aspects of the city of Starkwall, her government, and her people to the supervision of the County of Urnst. Starkwall shall be absorbed into the Archbarony of Eastmarch, and the Lord of the East shall have responsibility for the administration of Starkwall."[2]
The treaty was signed by Her Brilliancy Contessa Elone Hofre Gellor of the County of Urnst, and His August Supremacy Emperor Sewarndt of the Nyrond Imperium.
