Iwish (pronounced /eye-wish/) is an old mining town located on the banks of the Flanmi River which was once known for the gold panned out of the river. But by 585 CY, only small flakes can be found. Some of the more desperate miners turn to robbery, which makes traveling through the area risky.

History

The town reached its peak sometime around 285 CY, when chunks of gold could still be found, boasting more than four thousand inhabitants. It slowly dwindled in size over the centuries as the gold deposits dried up. The frequent movement of people and wagons along the riverbank in the area called Nugget Run eroded the bank to the point it causes flooding in spring.

Geography

Iwish is located roughly equidistant between Eastfair and Darnagal, on the eastern bank of the Flanmi, in Aerdiaak—the North Province of the Great Kingdom, and later the North Kingdom.

Cityscape

The city's main hostelry is known as the Golden Grumnet (an archaic unit of weight). It serves as a gathering spot for locals, among them Naelex nobles who control the surrounding land.

Resources

Besides gold, one of the few resources of note is the meat from birds such as herons, swans, and cranes which nest in the area and are frequently hunted with crossbows.
