The Knights of Luna are an organization of elves and half-elves in the service of the nation of Celene.

The Knights of Luna are an order of elves and half-elves dedicated to preserving the monarchy of Celene and the noble traditions of the elves throughout the central Flanaess.[1]
History[edit | edit source]
In more recent years, the activity of the Knights of Luna has also included seeking to involve Celene in the politics of post-war Oerik "by reasoned debate and by hosting foreign dignitaries and sponsoring them at court. They also support limited military actions, particularly on Celene’s southern borders and in the Principality of Ulek.[1]
Queen Yolande’s advisers led her to decree Celene a virtually closed land, with borders sealed to all but those the land has known well for many years.
The Knights of Luna believe this to be short-sighted and foolhardy. Militarily, they believe that the survival of Furyondy and Veluna is the only hope for good in the world, and they also have strong fellow-feeling for the Highfolk. They regard Highfolk as the key for current conflict and skirmish. Only if Iuz is repelled there and in the Vesve Forest can enough time be bought to secure Furyondy and develop the might needed to overcome Iuz eventually.
For years Yolande has closed her borders, leaving only the Knights of Luna to patrol outside her borders.[2]

All members of the Knights of Luna must be elven or have elven heritage.
"Numbering just over two hundred knights, this order includes many high elves and half-elves, many of them wizards as well as fighters. ... The most senior and experienced knights... are permitted to take squires of any elven or part-elven lineage."[1] Half of them dwell within Celene itself,[citation needed] many venturing into the Welkwood and beyond to acquire information and support the woodsmen of the Gnarley Forest and northern Suss Forest.[citation needed]

Thought the Knights of Luna have no formal hierarchy, generally the most senior and experienced knights have the most authority.[1] Melf, Prince Brightflame, is their nominal leader.
