Patriarch-General Pyrannden is the head of the church of Hextor in the Great Kingdom, trying to play political games with the followers of Baalzephon to help Ivid keep power, because he wants to ensure stability in the transition of power and is dubious of other rulers. [1]
Description
[edit | edit source]Appearance
[edit | edit source]The Patriarch General is a physically imposing man, being 6'2" and powerfully built[1]. He has dark brown eyes and close cropped dark brown hair, and looks more than a decade older than he is, thanks to the constant stress of his position. As a symbol of his office, he tends to wear black robes with white skull motifs[1].
Personality
[edit | edit source]Pyrannden is good at political maneuvering, and at telling the overking what he wants to hear to maintain favor, though Pyrannden does not like the uncertainty brought by the fracturing of power dynamics in the Great Kingdom post-Greyhawk Wars.
Religion
[edit | edit source]While Pyrannden is a devote follower of Hextor he does believe that it would be possible to form an alliance with Baalzephon, despite not having contacted her directly[1], which is part of why he has not raised serious objections to the worship of Baalzy, apart from not wanting to upset the overking.
Possessions
[edit | edit source]While Pyrannden likes to horde various artifacts to help increase the political leverage of the Church of Hextor, the one unique magic item that he keeps for personal use is the chainmail +4 of fire resistance.

[edit | edit source]Pyrannden has a very contentious relationship with the Court Mage Karoolck, whom he hates and distrusts, despite his willingness to work with Baalzephon [1]. He is also leery of the fact that Karoolck can cast gate to visit Baalzephon directly while he cannot.
Other acquaintances
[edit | edit source]Pyrannden has a complicated relationship with Herzog Grenell of the North Province, because on the one hand, he genuinely thinks the Herzog has the best chance of uniting the people of Aerdy after the Great Kingdom's inevitable collapse, but on the other hand has to content with the fact that church of Hextor in the North Province maintains a completely separate hierarchy and the herzog is not interested in working with Pyrannden until things are more stable.
