Verminek is a high official of the Church of Hextor serving in Eastfair in North Province in 585 CY. He is also a scholar of the planes, and one of Herzog Grenell's primary sources of information from off-plane, reporting on dealings between Ivid and various fiends such as baatezu.[1]
Description

[edit | edit source]Verminek is unusually small at 5'3", with a slim build on top of that. He is also bald with thick eyebrows and prominent ears. He is 49 in 585 CY.[2]
Personality
[edit | edit source]Verminek is cunning, but not particularly social, preferring the company of undead to the living.[2]
Religion
[edit | edit source]While there is no doubting his devotion to the Church of Hextor, the Patriarch is unusual among his deity's followers in his frequent dealings with fiends, as most of the rest of the priesthood take The Overking's fall into madness as a warning not to consult too closely with devils and demons.[3]
Home
[edit | edit source]Verminek keeps a manor in Eastfair, which is full of undead servants, so many that he is forced to cover them in perfume to mask the stench. [4]
Possessions
[edit | edit source]Verminek is able to keep himself so well attuned to the goings on of fiends thanks to his amulet of the planes which he frequently uses to travel the the Nine Hells. [4] Verminek keeps himself well protected during these trips with two magical items. One is a ring of protection +3, and the other is a specially made cloak of protection +3 that gives more protection on the Inner Planes and even more on the Outer Planes. [2]
One of his most carefully guarded possessions is a leather-bound tome in which he has recorded the true names of several powerful baatezu. He keeps this tome guarded, and hides it further with dust of disappearance. [4]
Relationships

[edit | edit source]Verminek consorts and traffics with devils, unlike Grenell and other priests of Hextor.[3] This is part of the reason that Grenell allows him so much independence; Grenell remembers that during the Greyhawk Wars he was able to summon a retinue of baatezu to aid in the war efforts. [4]
Other acquaintances
[edit | edit source]Verminek is one of the few people who are vile or deranged enough to consort or visit with Lady Lorana Kath—a high-level death knight priestess of Hextor—at her abode near Stringen. It is she who creates the first animuses and gave the secrets of doing so to the priests of Hextor.[5]

[edit | edit source]Verminek is often seen at the "Noble Herzog" inn alongside other powerful people in Eastfair.[4]
