An Index of the D&D Works of Lenard “Leomund’s Tiny Hut” Lakofka

2025-10-16T19:04:23-04:00November 1st, 2020|

While Lenard Lakofa is perhaps best known to D&D players for his character "Leomund" and his associated "Leomund's Tiny Hut" column in Dragon Magazine (as well as the third-level MU spell of the same name from AD&D), his roots in fantasy gaming run much deeper:Lenard attended the inaugural GenCon in 1968, and was contributing to the Spartan and the untitled IFW newsletters in the same year.  See IFW zines at The Tome of Treasures forums by for "lakofka" as keyword:  https://www.tomeoftreasures.com/forum/search.phpLenard's fantasy miniatures rules were developed and playtested in his Diplomacy zine, Les Liaisons Dangereuses through mid-1975, as well as at GenCon VIII in 1975 and continuing through until at least 1980Like most TSR and/or TSR-associated tourneys at early GenCons, the titles of the events were very generic like "D&D For Prizes" or "D&D for Novices" or "D&D Adventure" up through about 1979, when event titles began to differentiate:1980 featured "Consort of the Queen" and "The Crypt of Yenoughu" ("A single session game with plenty of hard-and-heavy action for pre-rolled 5th-11th level characters."), "The Town of Grellton" ("An AD&D adventure with pre-diced characters, second through fifth level.) among others1981 featured "Devil’s Spire" ("A party of 8th to 11th level adventurers weather encounters with a Pit Fiend, a Mage and myriads of monsters in an attempt to send Dispater back to the plan of Dis. An AD&D adventure."),  "The Embassy to the Pale" ("Adventurers of 3rd to 5th level are recruited by the Baron Ratik, who seeks to attack the Bone March. The Baron must first obtain the help of the Theocracy of the Pale, and you and your comrades will carry his message to the ... read more!

Tusmit (LG) Now on GreyhawkOnline!

2020-04-07T13:07:47-04:00April 7th, 2020|

Have you ever looked wistfully back at some of the old Living Greyhawk material, and wished you could see more of it? Have you ever wished you could've played in the campaign, so you could see some of the factions, NPCs, and organizations they had in the campaign? Well, wish no more! Greyhawk Online is proud to announce there is now our first Living Greyhawk campaign site now re-hosted with GHO! Tusmit (Quebec)!!We worked closely with the Tusmit Triad former PoC and webmaster, Daniel Mayrand, in order to make this happen. Thankfully, Daniel actually still had all of the files for Tusmit from the previous Tusmit.org. He'd faithfully kept a mirror of them for the last dozen years! It's difficult to conceive of it being quite that long, but, it has. The Living Greyhawk campaign ended in the Summer of '08, at GenCon. So, when we went looking for contact information for old PoCs for various regions, we can across Dan's info, and we immediately contacted him. He was very gracious about it, and he discussed it with the other previous Triad members who ran/hosted the site and the Tusmit region. One of them even said they were surprised the content was still available somewhere! You can now visit the Tusmit page right here on GHO! This is a continuing project, and what we hope will happen is that we'll get more an more information and contact more and more Triad members. There's already a few who've agreed to work with us, but the real barrier to re-hosting them is that the sites aren't always available in their entirety, anymore. Most of them are no ... read more!

Oerth Journal in Print

2020-03-14T01:44:00-04:00March 14th, 2020|

BREAKING NEWS!! Greyhawk Online is proud to present: THE OERTH JOURNAL, IN PRINT!! Last year as GaryConXI (2019) approached, the group giving a panel seminar entitled Celebrating Greyhawk: A Fandom Rennaisance was looking to give out some kind of swag to seminar attendees. As we gathered maps, heraldry handouts, an adventure … we realized we had so much to hand out, it should be collected. Greyhawk Online was already in the process of publishing issue #29 of the Oerth Journal, and so the idea was hit upon of printing the OJ for the very first time, and putting all the content in it, and giving it away for free. A limited edition of 100 issues was printed and given free to attendees.  The fan reception was overwhelming.  Many people asked how to get a copy, and wanted to know if it was going to be printed again. Collectors wanted to have it as a "rare" item. Thus, in order to support Greyhawk Online, the Great Library of Greyhawk wiki, and the Oerth Journal free PDF, GHO has decided to accept donations, and offer free print editions of the Oerth Journal to colectors who are interested in such niche items.  So now, through Patreon crowd-source funding, we're offering donors who support Greyhawk Online a perk! ... A copy of the newest issue of the Oerth Journal, IN PRINT! (The PDF of the magazine will still be available freely.) These limited editions are obviously few in number, and are otherwise only available to seminar attendees at GaryCon. But, now, everyone can get one! Each quarter when the Oerth Journal is released as a free PDF, those who've signed up as ... read more!

I’m published!

2020-01-04T17:41:00-05:00January 4th, 2020|

Although I'm likely known for my History of Oerth posts, I'm deviating from the norm to announce weird and wonderful news. I'm published! I've been writing for years, and have completed two novels and a handful of short stories, none of which could be considered Fantasy, or even speculative in any shape or form. I wrote contemporary stories, and turn of the century novels, one set in Timmins, my hometown, in the year of its birth, and the other a faux history of my great grandfather's supposed experiences in the Great War. I say "supposed history" because he never once spoke about his experiences while in uniform. This is not to say that I'm not acquainted with fantasy or Dungeons and Dragons, because I most certainly am. I read science fiction when I began reading, and then Lord of the Rings in my early years of high school. I picked up Gary Gygax's "Gord" of Greyhawk novels, and the original Dragonlance trilogies as they came out. I must say that I tired of the Forgotten Realms novels rather quickly, even as I continued to buy and read them for many years. I preferred the Black Company series to them. Time passed, my friends who played D&D moved away, and the game slipped into the past. That's likely a similar story to many readers of this blog. I swapped fantasy for classics and histories and literary novels like Hemingway and Fitzgerald and Faulkner, and a host on Canadiana I won't bore you with since you've likely never heard of Findley and Robertson and so many other Canadian authors, and there I stayed until relatively recently, when ... read more!
