Grosskopf (also seen as Groskopf) is a small nation within the Combination of Free Lords. Despite its size, it is considered one of the strongest states.[1]
History
[edit | edit source]Tenh invades Groskopf in 578 CY. The army crosses the Zumker River, and overwhelmed Grosskopf.[2] This invasion is blamed for the troubles with the Horned Society which followed, because it is the impetus which causes retribution from the Society against the Free Lords who call all their forces east to defend themselves against Tenh instead of fighting for the Society in the west.[3]
Eventually a truce is negotiated, and Groskopf cedes the lands east of the Zumker River (south of the Griff Mountains and north of the Zumkend River) to Tenh, including Calbut and High Hadleigh.[2]
After the Greyhawk Wars, many of Grosskopf's people hide out in the Bluff Hills, fighting against the forces of Iuz.[4]
Geography
[edit | edit source]Groskopf is situated in the far northeastern corner of the Bandit Kingdoms.[5] It is bounded to the east and south by the Zumker River. To its southwest are the lands of Rookroost. The Fellands are to the west, and the eastern Bluff Hills are part of Grosskopf.[5]
Government
[edit | edit source]
The clans' leader is Baron Skiven (Ftr 11) in spring of 579 CY.[2][6]
After the Greyhawk Wars, in 591 CY, the entire Bandit Kingdoms is controlled by the Empire of Iuz, and Groskopf (and the Fellands) are governed from Rookroost.[7]
Military
[edit | edit source]In the spring of 579 CY when Groskopf (and all the Free Lords of the Combination) are turning their attention westward to retake Wormhall and the Warfields from the Horned Society, Groskopf's army consists of 150 cavalrymen, 300 infantry, and a force of 50 ogrillons.[2]
Despite being one of the smaller military forces in the Combination, the military of Groskopf forms the foundation of the "grandiosely named"[8] Marauders of the North.[7]

In the Living Greyhawk campaign (591-598 CY), the lands of Groskopf are part of the Northern Alliance.[9]
Publishing history
[edit | edit source]Groskopf is mentioned in passing in several sources, but detailed in few. Two Dragon issues contained information about the region, but related more to the numbers of military forces which were found there, than to the society or culture.
