The “Great Library of Greyhawk” has added it’s 3,200th page!
Greetings, Greyhawkers!
It never fails to make us happy when we see how active and prolific the Greyhawk community is. A while back, we announced the Great Library of Greyhawk was being revitalized and had branched out and come to GreyhawkOnline.

In almost exactly 15 months, we’ve added over 200 articles to the wiki!
On average, that’s a new page on most days of the week for an entire year straight !
The 3,200th addition to the wiki was a page about the University of Magical Arts!
All wikis are one of those things which need constant attention.
Not only do things like links to external sources and such go out of date, and have to be recovered from the depths of the ‘net with the Wayback Machine, but many other things, as well … Greyhawk is so large and there’s so many details, there’s not enough time in the world for 100% of it to ever be fully cataloged.
But with this, the 3,200th article, we can see real progress being made. There have been numerous editors and contributors over the years, and more and more coming even today.
While a lot of the content is from GHO staff, there’s a number of fans helping to generate and edit content.
We’d like to give a special shoutout to contributor and editor Omega9999, a longstanding member of the GH community for putting in such diligent effort lately in correcting categories, grammar, and interwiki links! Another user creating a lot of content and new pages is Arthan the Cleric!
Also, to Rasgon (aka Rip VanWormer) and Robbastard (mka Rob Vest), for the amazing effort they put into editing. And to Lamashtu (aka w80) for hosting previous mirrors of the older version of the GLoG.
The revitalization of the wiki was through a great friendship with the original host of the Great Library of Greyhawk, Gary Holian. Gary is the owner of the oldest Greyhawk fan-site on the internet, Canonfire!.
And, if it weren’t for the original version of the wiki created and hosted on CF!, the modern version wouldn’t exist.
Gary often talks with GHO, and after suffering from spam- and bot-attacks for several years, he decided to keep the largest and most well-known source for information on GH on the ‘net from having a split where different versions on disparate sites had different information and edits.
So, Canonfire partnered with GHO and now the wiki linked on the front page of CF! is the Great Library of Greyhawk hosted by GHO!
Many thanks and much appreciation to Gary from all of us here at GHO!

There’s even a Greyhawk wiki at FANDOM.com formerly known as Wikia) which is affiliated with GreyhawkOnline, as sort of a much smaller, sister site. It’s still managed by GHO, but some users prefer the format at FANDOM, and have a little more license to put fanon content on that version. We highly encourage fans to get their Greyhawk wherever suits their interest, so we’re glad that members there make Greyhawk better every day!
There’s a lot of tasks still ahead.
We’re considering cleaning up a lot of the categories, to make them more navigable, and we’re still tying to fill in some surprising gaps we still sometimes find – every now and again, we’ll find something incredibly famous (or notorious?) like the University of Magical Arts which didn’t have its own page.
…. or a major forest or major mountain range.
… or a notable nation.
… or a famous NPC.
And so, we’ve had to go about building a page for it. Which, in our opinion, is how a wiki is supposed to work.
When someone needs to look up a place or thing, if they can’t find it, we’d love it if their first thought was to create a page for it!
But, if that’s not an option, we actually keep stats on what our users search for, and when we can see searches are trending, we try to make a point of making pages for those topics. Not only can we track searches, but we can separately see when a search doesn’t result in a valid page by that name.
So, go take a look at the Great Library of Greyhawk, and look up your favorite topic and add some detail to it or start up a new page!
Here’s to the future!
We look forward to all of the content our fans will contribute in months and years to come!

[Update from the Editor]:
March 11, 2020
Of course, life’s gotten busy with trying to produce the Oerth Journal, but we thought we’d give an update on how the wiki is doing 90 days later!
So, we’re actually up to 3,232 posts now with over 17,000 edits!
The news is still on the same vein – the wiki is strong and growing daily!
But, we always still need new contributors to help us make it as good as it can be!
We’re VERY proud of all that the GH community does, and we’re SUPER pleased the wiki is doing so well!]
