Gates in the World of Greyhawk
Many, many years ago, a fella by the name of Roger Moore decided to create and share an incredible thing … he went through most all of the notable modules and such at the time, and put together notes on his ideas for all of the references to various planes, portals, gates, and demi-planes mentioned in World of Greyhawk products.

Where might one go beyond the sphere of Oerth?
Roger was an employee of TSR back in the 90s and wrote a lot of officially published Greyhawk content. But also, in addition to being a fairly prolific author, Roger was an involved author, especially in unofficial areas. He was known to chat on occasion with fans who happened to see him online. Back in those days, most all of the TSR employees who had company American Online screennames were available and accessible quite a bit more than they are today.
He often wrote for the Oerth Journal and was known for his presence online in the America Online forums in the late 90s (though they weren’t really called forums then), back when TSR had it’s own presence and “folders” there. He published several articles of good length there from ’95 to ’99. He was also published in Dragon and Polyhedron magazines. Arguably, his most notable contribution to the World of Greyhawk was Greyhawk: The Adventure Begins, in 1998. Which was a resource that chronicled the history of Greyhawk, gave details about the Flanaess, and gave even more details about the Domain and City of Greyhawk itself.
This particular article, Gates in the World of Greyhawk, originally appeared as one of the AOL articles, but was eventually made available by Wizards of the Coast as an article on their website, which is still available via the wayback machine. It was live on the WotC site ’til at least February of ’04.
Unfortunately, Roger planned on writing another article to follow this one, but, to the best of our knowledge, it was never produced. However, this one is really so great, though, it’s difficult to say that it’s not enough! There are really *SO* many ways to use this article because there’s so much in it.
This is such a significant article in the history of the World of Greyhawk we would like to invite you to take a look at the original as it was published in the TSR AOL folders, shared here for archival purposes or visit the Wayback Machine to read it as it was published on the WotC website.
We look forward to hearing everyone’s opinions on the article, so, discuss it below in the comments! Tell us what you think of Roger Moore’s article, or how you use it in your campaign!
Enjoy!
’til the Starbreak!!
Ware and were, friends!
Greyhawkonline.com would like to thank William Dvorak for bringing up the topic in a popular Greyhawk Facebook group and in our Discord server, which made us realize this valuable resource may’ve not been seen by a LOT of modern Greyhawk fans.
